Business Night Round #2

Last Thursday, the mission groups presented their missions a second time. All of the students did their best. The presentations, their elevator speeches, and team posters were well done. Despite no businesses attending, the students pushed forward and some donations were made. Mrs. Taylor was proud of all of them! Some of the ways our presenters thought would help reel in more businesses would be to be less laid-back while calling, sending emails, contacting smaller companies, and better memorizing their presentations. According to Malachi from the Philippines group, it's important that even though no businesses came, there is always room to improve.

What is your favorite and least favorite part of your job?

But right at the front, I seek to make everything the best, just like the rest of the stuff and that just takes a lot of work.

My most favorite is really hard. It is going to be the people I work with, is my absolute favorite. I love every second of every day that I get to spend here. And my second favorite thing is the kids like I absolutely live to love on the kids."

Is there any added stress coming back from the snow days trying to catch up on work?
“No, I actually was able to work remotely so I was actually able to get more done at home than I would have on campus because there were no interruptions.”

Now that we are about halfway through the school year how do you think the school has turned out. Is there anything you would add or change?
“The school is better than I even dreamed it could be it is a wonderful surprise. I would have more students at valor I would like to have about 500 kids and to keep growing from there but we don't
have space.”

State of the School Address - Monday, Jan 23

Valor's State of the School Address event took place at 7:00 PM on Jan 23.The head of the school, Angie Taylor, gave a presentation of what our school is all about to the families of Valor and potential new students. Afterwards, the guests were free to partake in refreshments while visiting different tables presenting the One-2-One program and the three mission groups. Members from teams going to Yakama, Philippines, and Haiti presented their missions in hopes to raise funds for their respective trips. Some presented their mission by giving "elevator speeches" (a short spur of the moment speech), drinking dirty water (demonstrating filtration of water), or giving out bracelets (a great hook for potential sponsors). It was a great night for presenting our school to current and future Valor families and celebrating our progress as a school body.

HS & MS Science Team's First Victory!

The secondary school science team created 2 airplanes and entered their first competition, the LEAF STEM Challenge. The challenges were for the craft to fly as far as possible while carrying as much weight. The high schoolers won first and third places, and the middle schoolers won second place in their respective contest. The first two planes broke during the competition, and they used the parts mid-contest to create a third one which they used for the rest of the competition.  The contest was held at Seattle's Museum of Flight, which is a few blocks from Boeing, and the team defeated Raysback Aviation High School, which is funded by Boeing. The wings of the final plane currently hang in Mr. Neill's classroom. Congratulations!

What do mission trips mean to the students at Valor?
“Mission trips are an opportunity for high school students to experience new cultures wherever they go and to learn about the culture of the area they are serving in. Mission trips are also a chance to care and mentor the children they interact with.”

“Missions trips are the week of March 13-17. Some of the upcoming fundraisers for the mission trips are Dinner and a movie and plants sales in February.
